COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Minnesota State Trooper Troy Christianson explains that drivers can use sand, tire chains, and even floor mats for traction when a car gets stuck in snow. He advises clearing snow away and easing on the gas to avoid digging in further — suggestions to help Minnesota drivers as winter continues.  KROC-AM
  • LIFE Mower County is hosting its 31st Annual Rose Sale from Feb. 17 to March 26 to benefit local programs for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities + orders can be placed online until March 26. Volunteers are needed for pick-up and delivery on April 14.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eddie Bauer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy & Catalyst Brands may close its remaining Minnesota stores if no buyer is found by Mar 3. The liquidation process for 175 stores is expected to last about 13 weeks.  KROC-AM
  • Treasure Island Resort and Casino celebrated Tuesday with the grand opening of its renovated Buffalo Tower, the company’s first hotel tower featuring 246 guest rooms. Located (45 minutes away), the resort is expected to welcome 120,000 guests in its first year.  KTTC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents can join a delegation (June 12 to June 22) to Germany to visit sister cities Moosburg an der Isar and Münster and other cultural sites. Mayor Kim Norton and City Council President Randy Schubring say the trip will strengthen international ties and bring fresh ideas to Rochester.  KIMT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A recent study finds that Great Lakes fish show a steady drop in PFAs (forever chemicals) after these chemicals were phased out, though experts advise limiting consumption to one rainbow smelt serving per week for safety.  KROC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A 2025 state report shows a 20% drop in traffic deaths in Minnesota, with only 347 fatalities as of Dec. 1, 2025 (89 fewer than in 2024). Despite the progress, public safety officials said they remained focused on achieving zero fatalities.  KTTC
