  • Rochester nonprofits are requesting winter glove donations ahead of First Alert Days this weekend. They say gloves are critical for people in need of shelter and will continue to accept contributions as weather remains unpredictable.  KTTC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • SweetDrip Sauna offers a winter escape — next to Cook Park and Old Abe's Coffee Shop — with three portable saunas, woodfire or electric, for $24 per hour. It is open Wed-Fri from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sat from 4 to 8 p.m. until April.  KIMT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Experience Rochester's Restaurant Week will run from Monday, Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, where nearly 30 local restaurants will offer special menus while Rochester Public Transit provides free round trip bus fare vouchers for diners.  KIMT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents saw the Northern Lights across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa Monday night and Tuesday morning despite the harsh cold. A few locals braved low temperatures to catch a rare glimpse of the Aurora.  KTTC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pine Island Fire Department warns that subzero temperatures this weekend may raise fire risks for older homes using wood-burning stoves and heaters. Firefighters are training to keep their trucks ready and advise residents to check the State Fire Marshal's website for safety tips.  KTTC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Minnesota dance team earned first place in Division 1A Pom Routine and its cheer team won Small Co-ed Cheer Game Day at the UDA and UCA College National Championships in Orlando. Their win boosts a record of 23 national titles for the dance team since 2003.  KTTC
