COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Project members held an open house on Tuesday morning in Rochester to address resident questions about the proposed transmission line — expected to be in service by 2034 — with community feedback set to help narrow route options as officials aim for a final decision by late 2027 or early 2028.  KIMT
  • Gift of Life Transplant House will host Nashville Night at Historic Chateau Theatre on February 27 from 7 to 11:30 p.m., featuring County Line Drive opening and the Cory Farley Band from Nashville headlining the dance (tickets cost $65).  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MnDOT will set up a detour at the I-90 + Hwy. 52 interchange after wrong-way drivers confused traffic in the work zone. The change will start Tuesday or Wednesday and remain until the project ends.  KROC
  • City officials met on Monday, Jan. 13 to review three plans for the Historic Chateau Theatre as it nears its 100th anniversary in 2027. They are leaning toward a plan that upgrades stage, lighting and audio systems while delaying a final decision until Threshold Arts' lease expires in 2026.  KIMT
  • MnDOT will establish a new detour at the I-90 & Hwy. 52 interchange this week to address wrong-way drivers in the work zone near Rochester; drivers turning from southbound Hwy. 52 to eastbound I-90 will be rerouted via Marion Road.  KROC-AM

HEALTH NEWS

  • The 5th District Eagles Cancer Telethon will air on KTTC from Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. to Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. at Mayo Civic Center, where over 150 volunteers will host the event to raise funds for cancer research.  KTTC
  • Sixteen-year-old Simon Wilke of Century High School created Derma Sight, an AI app that analyzes photos for skin cancer risk by also providing UV info to improve skin health. It will need FDA approval before it can be downloaded widely + may soon expand features for different skin tones.  KTTC
